What we do
Jackdaw Web Design is a specialist web design company and WordPress consultancy. We provide web design, website maintenance and WordPress training and are based just outside Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England, and it's owned and managed by me, Jackie Latham.
My goal from day one has been to create clean, responsive websites that do what you, the owner, expects of them – no bells and whistles, just good, honest, functional tools for you and your organisation.
All of our websites are designed with your customer at the heart of them. Our aim is get as many of your customers as possible to buy your products or services so that you get the best possible return on your investment.
How do we do that?
Jackdaw Web Design is a full service web design company, so we really know our stuff about what attracts visitors to your site, how they use your site and how it has be organised to persuade as many as possible to buy your products or services.
We're not a normal company with lots of employees, but rather a group of associates who each bring their own expertise to the websites we build. The advantage of working like that means that we don't just work with each other, we work on our own projects too, so we're always learning new stuff and bringing new ideas into play. We are all experienced specialists in our own area.
Amy Purdie, Whiteacres Design
Amy Purdie of Whiteacres Design is our graphics and branding guru. She doesn't just create beautiful images, she'll work with you to make sure that your whole brand showcases your ethos and values, encompassing everything from your logo through your social media accounts, right up to the words you use when communicating with your customers.
Sue Todd, Sue Todd Photography
Sue Todd of Sue Todd Photography is our go-to photographer. Sue can take good photos of just about anything, but what really sets her apart is that she specialises in food and product photography, and in portraits, which makes her the perfect photographer for business websites. You can see examples of her work all over this website because she did all my lovely headshots for me.
Jackie Latham, Web Design
As for me, Jackie Latham, I'm the technical part of our team. I build, fix and generally lavish tlc on WordPress websites, and I only do WordPress websites - it's that specialist thing again. I also do the structural design of the websites, making sure that your website is laid out in the best way possible to get as many of your customers to buy from you as we can.
And if you already have a site, I'll look after it for you, keeping your site up and running 24 hours a days so that it's working for you while you sleep.
Why do I do this?
Because I love the creativity of web design, I love helping businesses to achieve their goals, and I love IT (I must do - I’ve worked in IT since before Windows was a twinkle in Bill Gates’ eye!).
I started as a COBOL programmer with the DHSS in 1986, then joined British Airways after a short stint at Newcastle University. While at BA, I ran the team which looked after the corporate intranet - a large website with over 50,000 regular users, and many web apps, from payroll to cabin crew check-in.
I started building websites on a part-time basis in 2013, so when I took voluntary redundancy in 2015 it was a logical step to becoming a full time web designer, and Jackdaw Web Design was born.
